The course

What this course really gives you

Forty metres is the edge of recreational diving, and it is a different world. Colors are gone, your air vanishes twice as fast as at 15 m, and gas narcosis quietly taxes your thinking. The Deep Diver specialty teaches you to work inside those facts instead of discovering them by accident.

The course is four dives over two days, each one deeper and more independent. You plan the profiles yourself under instructor review: gas turnpoints, ascent schedule, contingency depths. At depth we run simple narcosis checks so you learn what your own head does at 35 m, which is knowledge no book can give you.

Hurghada is built for this course. The outer reef walls drop past 40 m in gin-clear water, so every training dive doubles as a spectacular wall dive. Combine Deep with the wreck specialty and the whole Red Sea, Thistlegorm included, opens up properly.

Skills

What you learn

1

Plan gas like it matters

At 40 m you breathe five times the surface rate. You learn turnpoint planning, reserve rules and why deep divers surface with fat margins, every time.

2

Meet your own narcosis

Simple timed exercises at depth show you exactly how much slower you think at 35 m. Knowing your personal tell is the best narcosis defence there is.

3

Ascend like a professional

Slow, staged, controlled. You practice safety stops with a reference and without one, and learn why the last 10 metres are the most important of the dive.

4

Handle deep-water logistics

Drop tanks, spare gas at the stop, buddy checks that actually check. The small procedures that make deep diving routine instead of risky.

This course fits you if

  • Advanced divers who want 40 m with skill, not luck
  • Wreck fans: the best of the Thistlegorm sits below 25 m
  • Wall-dive lovers, which in the Red Sea should be everyone
  • Divers building toward technical training later

Four dives, each one deeper, each one properly planned by me and checked by the instructor. The narcosis test at 35 m was eye-opening: my maths got noticeably worse and now I know my tell. Superb course on stunning walls.

Deep Diver Specialty questions

How deep can I dive after the Deep Diver specialty?

The certification qualifies you to 40 m, which is the recreational limit. The course gets you there progressively: dives run to roughly 24, 30, 35 and 40 m, each with full planning and instructor supervision.

Is diving to 40 metres dangerous?

It is less forgiving than 18 m, which is exactly why the training exists. With correct gas planning, slow ascents and narcosis awareness, deep diving is a routine skill. The course drills those three things until they are habits.

What is gas narcosis and will I feel it?

Nitrogen under pressure has a mildly anaesthetic effect that most divers start noticing past 30 m: slower thinking, tunnel focus, sometimes giddiness. You will likely feel something at 35 to 40 m, on purpose, in a controlled exercise, with an instructor watching. That experience is the point.

Should I do nitrox before or with the deep course?

It pairs beautifully. Nitrox does not make you go deeper (the oxygen limit forbids it on rich mixes), but on the shallower training dives and on every dive after the course it buys you bottom time. Many students do nitrox on day one and deep on the following two days.

Which sites do you use for deep training in Hurghada?

The outer reef walls and drop-offs: sites like Abu Ramada South and the Gota walls, where the reef falls clean past 40 m in excellent visibility. Every training dive is also simply a great wall dive.

Ready to dive today?

The water is 28°C, the visibility is over 30 m, and a boat with your name on it leaves tomorrow at 8 AM.
